TAKAO COFFEE
Take a relaxing break at Mt. Takao with freshly roasted coffee
and seasonal cakes and baked sweets.
TAKAO COFFEE is a popular café located at the foot of Mt. Takao, right in front of the TAKAO 599 MUSEUM, a museum that shares the natural beauty of Mt. Takao (elevation 599 m). The café is operated by BASEL, a long-established and well-known pastry shop with 14 locations mainly in the Tama area and the Shonan region. One of the secrets of its popularity is that visitors can enjoy authentic house-roasted coffee along with cakes and baked sweets made fresh in the shop.
Depending on the season, the display case usually features seven to eight different cakes, with tiramisu being especially recommended. The baked sweets selection includes Gateau aux Noix, a cookie sandwich filled with nougat made from caramel and roasted walnuts, as well as brownies, peanut butter cookies, and many other treats.
The interior follows the concept of “together with the mountains and fields,” featuring a warm design that uses plenty of wood in the walls, ceiling, and furniture. Large windows offer views of the wide lawn of TAKAO 599 MUSEUM and the surrounding mountains, creating a relaxing atmosphere that enhances the feeling of being on a trip to Mt. Takao.
One of the convenient features—rare in the Mt. Takao area—is the availability of parking. There is also a takeout window, so you can order without entering the café. Outside, you’ll find terrace seating on a wooden deck as well as bicycle racks. It’s a perfect place to take a peaceful break during your visit to Mt. Takao.
