The more you chew, the richer the flavor Charcoal-grilled 「Mukashidori」 is the specialty 「Sumidori Kura IKADA」
Opened in November 2017, this chicken specialty restaurant is located just steps from the Mitake-san Entrance intersection along Yoshino Kaido. Its signature dish is charcoal-grilled 「Mukashidori」. 「Mukashidori」 refers to mature chicken, known for its firm texture and deep, savory flavor. While tender young chicken is more commonly used today, mature chicken was widely eaten in the past, which is why it is called 「Mukashidori」. With each bite, the umami of the meat becomes more pronounced. The fragrant, richly flavored charcoal-grilled bone-in thigh of mature chicken has now become a new local specialty of Mitake.
Other menu highlights include the striking jet-black oversized rice ball 「Bakudan」, wrapped in Hiroshima nori and filled with Hokkaido salmon, Kishu pickled plum, and Hokkaido kombu simmered in soy sauce. There are also seasoned soft-boiled eggs made with Momiji eggs from Ome, simmered in savory soy sauce, and kombu broth prepared with kelp from Rishiri Island. The pesticide-free, homegrown Mitake sansho pepper is another must-try. Ideal for lunch during your travels.
