A renovated registered tangible cultural property from the late Edo period 「Kominka Café Harenoya」
This house was originally built in the late Edo period. As its roof shape suggests, it was once a thatched-roof structure known as 「kabuto-zukuri」. Making use of the historically significant 「Former Takahashi Residence」, now designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, it has been transformed into a traditional folk house café.
The café is run by Tomoko Doi, who previously worked as a member of the 「Community Revitalization Cooperation Corps」 and later chose to settle in Hinohara Village after falling in love with the area. Inside, works by local artists are displayed and sold, while carefully selected furniture and lighting come together to create a warm, Japanese-modern atmosphere.
The café is well known for its gentle, nourishing menu, including a 「monthly lunch」 and 「herbal teas」 made with locally grown vegetables, herbs, and spices. It is a place well worth stopping by when visiting Hinohara Village.
