Located in 「Ome Yoshino Baigo」, one of Tokyo’s famous plum-viewing areas that has recently been restored, 「Kobaien」 is a long-established plum confectionery specializing in Japanese sweets shaped like plums and crafted to showcase their delicate flavor.
Signature items include the shop’s proud specialty 「Kobai Manju」, featuring mildly sweet bean paste wrapped in castella-style sponge cake; the refined fresh confection 「Ume Honoka」, with gently plum-scented white bean paste enclosed in smooth gyuhi; the unique pressed plum sweet 「Umeginu」 made generously with plum wine; yokan jelly 「Ume Kobako」; and house-made 「Ume Kanroni」, sweetly simmered plums. In summer, their plum-flavored shaved ice is also extremely popular.
The shop also features an adjoining dessert café. Visitors can enjoy the specialty 「Ome Kuzukiri」, available nowhere else in Japan, carefully prepared oshiruko made with Hokkaido-grown Dainagon red beans or Okinawa Hateruma brown sugar, the local favorite 「Ome Soft Cream」, and lunch offerings such as the 「Chestnut Sticky Rice Set」.
