French Cuisine L’Arbre (Akiruno City)
Pursuing the use of Tokyo-grown ingredients and the inheritance of tradition, we offer "Tokyo's Terroir" French Cuisine.
L’Arbre is a French restaurant located in Akiruno City, a nature-rich area in the western
part of Tokyo’s Tama region. It is housed in the Kozukue-ke House, a Pseude-Westernstyle
building designated as a Tokyo Cultural Asset, built around 1875 during the Meiji
period. The dishes are made with locally grown vegetables and herbs from the chef’s
own farm, where natural farming methods are practiced. These include produce from
Akiruno, vegetables from Ome, fruits from the Ogasawara Islands, and fresh seafood
delivered from Hachijo-jima Island.
The menu also features Tokyo Wagyu beef, Tokyo military chickens, and goat cheese
produced locally. The chef sources these ingredients through personal interactions with
local producers, offering a unique “Tokyo’s Terroir” French experience that you can
only enjoy here.
The chef, Naoki Matsuo, honed his skills as the sous-chef at Les Saisons, the main
dining room of the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, which has maintained its Michelin star for
16 consecutive years. L’Arbre opened in October 2023, and it was already selected for
the 2024 edition of Gault & Millau Japan, the only restaurant outside of central Tokyo
to be included. The restaurant’s interior decoration features locally made hand-crafted
paper called Gundo-kami and pottery by local artisans. Additionally, the staff uniforms
incorporate buttons made from the locally produced Kurohachijo fabric, reflecting the
region’s cultural heritage.
A Chef Who Brings Shine to Local Producers: A Local First Approach to Cooking Indulge in the exquisite local dishes from the Akiruno area of Western Tama
The seating inside the restaurant is divided into a chef’s counter kitchen where you can feel the live cooking sounds and watch the chef’s meticulous work, a semi private room in the cultural asset area illuminated by soft light from pendant lights made of the locally produced Gundo kami paper, and spacious tables where you can enjoy your meal at a relaxed pace. For dinner on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, there are two seatings: 18:00 and 18:30, with lunch available at 12:00 and 12:30. Reservations are required for both. In addition, as part of its sustainable initiatives, every Thursday the restaurant offers the Aruhino lunch menu, which creatively uses food scraps and surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste, ensuring nothing is wasted while still providing an original and delicious menu.
If you’re in the western part of Tokyo, don’t miss the opportunity to try French cuisine that is deeply connected to the local specialties and culture of the Tama region, as well as the islands—experience “Tokyo’s Terroir” French cuisine at L’Arbre.
